6 to 8 yrs old - BIRTH YEAR 2015/2016
This program is a great way to get young skiers excited about skiing. With fun skiing games and drills, coaches will help these 6 to 8 year olds continue to build on the fundamental skills. Focuses range from balance and stance, building up to pressure, edging and carving. Our goal is to create well rounded skiers. U8 alpine skiers are expected to already know how to ski in control at an intermediate level. This program is a great option for those coming out of programs such as Purgatory's Snowburners or ATP.
The intent is to improve skills through an all-day (9am-3pm) program for young skiers who are ready to start working on basic skill improvement and starting to challenge themselves. Athletes will experience all aspects of skiing from basic fundamental skills to moguls, beginner tree skiing, and varied terrain, as well as introduction to slalom and giant slalom race courses. Much of the day will be spent skiing various terrain with a focus on fun skill development.
RACING IS NOT REQUIRED. There are race options available through the local race series and we encourage everyone to try one. The Purgatory Classic, and Purg Cup races are great chances to try out the different competitions. The focus of this program is developing well rounded skiers. This is a great introductory program leading up to the alpine race team, as well as building a base for the freeride and freestyle programs. U8 Alpine skis from 9am-3pm with an hour lunch break with the team. This group skis primarily on chair 1 and moves around the mountain as the group is ready. Our coach to athlete ratio does not exceed 1:5 to keep groups focused and to allow help with lift loading. U8 Alpine coaches do their best to make days fun with a relaxed atmosphere while managing energy and focus.
