ALPINE U10/U12 FULL-TIME 1 or 2 (SATURDAY & SUNDAY w/ 1 or 2 nights per week)

Age Group:

8-11 yrs old - BIRTH YEAR 2011-2014

Description:

With a focus on fundamental skill building in all types of terrain, coaches will develop the athlete’s knowledge of racing skills, techniques, and tactics. Full-time U10s/U12s are expected to ski at a strong intermediate level- this is parallel turns on any blue or easy black while maintaining speed and control.

U10 Full-Time 1

This is a good age to expand the athlete’s knowledge of the race arena, so the athlete can determine if they want to pursue racing more seriously in the future or explore other avenues of skiing. Full-Time athletes get more time on snow to accelerate improvement. We focus on incorporating fun and challenging skiing opportunities. Gate training is 15-20% of the U10 Full-Time program. Skiing will include: introduction to technique improvement drills and courses, natural and artificial terrain management, variable all-mountain terrain, introduction to gate racing and tactics.

U12 Full-Time 1

Athletes get more time on snow for accelerated improvement with a little less commitment during the week. We focus on building skills to become solid all-around skiers and introduce more drills, skills courses, and tactical gate training than the Part-Time programs. Skill development specific to alpine racing and aggressive all-mountain skiing is the goal for Full-Time athletes Racing in most local and regional Southern Series races is suggested. Opportunities for local races are at Purgatory, Chapman, and Hesperus. Regional races are regulated by US Ski and Snowboard Association and are considered the higher competition. USSA races offered are the Southern Series races which consists of three or four events located usually at Purgatory (early to mid-January), Flagstaff (early February) and Taos (mid to late march). Racers do not have to attend all events to participate in the Southern Series. All team camps are suggested. U10s are encouraged to participate at the U10 Championships in Telluride with no need to qualify and the U12s are encouraged to attend the U12 Championships in Powderhorn with no need to qualify.

Program includes fall dryland strength and conditioning training 2 days a week and video analysis during the season.
