More info below under Freestyle Program Options

Welcome

The goal of the DWSC Freestyle Team is to develop recreational and competitive freestyle athletes for Southwest Freestyle Tour, USSA and USASA competition.  The primary focus is to have fun and allow athletes to become a more accomplished all around skier.  The program is designed to teach basic and advanced mogul skiing techniques, aerial training, Terrain Park and overall free skiing skills. With strong ties to the U.S. Freestyle Team, the DWSC Freestyle Team offers children an introduction to all of the Freestyle disciplines including moguls, dual moguls, aerials, slope style and half pipe.  From “Old School to ‘New School” the DWSC Freestyle Team knows all the tricks.  From local competitions to regional and national USSA Freestyle events, the team offers structural training in a fun environment.

USSA and USASA LICENSES

Athletes competing at USSA sanctioned events are required to hold a current USSA or USASA youth or competitor license.  Athletes under the age of thirteen will need to apply for a Rocky Mountain Division Freestyle youth license and athletes over the age of thirteen will require a Rocky Mountain Division Freestyle Competitor license.  On line registration at www.ussa.org and click on memberships and must be renewed by October 15th each year.  USSA member service hotline is 435-647-2666. The United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) offers freeride events for competitive skiers.  The Park & Pipe team will compete in the USASA Southwest Colorado Series and points are earned to attend the USASA National Championships. A separate USASA license may be required.  Visit www.usasa.org for more information.

Volunteer Work Deposit

The DWSC relies on hundreds of parent volunteer hours to operate annually. Volunteering is a great way to meet other families and learn about your child's sport.  Home races, camps, fundraisers, team media, building courses for freestyle, and club maintenance/operation are all great opportunities for parents to contribute to the team.

Alpine and Freestyle teams require significant volunteer support (or paid staff).  These teams have instituted a required $200 volunteer work deposit that is fully refundable at the end of season (April 2023)  after the completion of a  minimum of two (2) dibs sessions (detailed below) at the end of season.

SportsEngine dibs will be the vehicle for signing up for volunteer opportunities and tracking fulfillment.  These credits can be fulfilled by a parent, family member or friend on behalf of the family.  Each dib credit is approximately 3-6 hours, depending on the work item.   Accounts will be reconciled at the end of the season and refunds will be available in April 2023.  If you wish to simply donate your tax deductible work deposit at the end of the season, this is also an option.

Families in Freeride and Gromlins are encouraged to volunteer, even though a payment policy is not required for these teams.  You will still have the option to select dibs within SportsEngine, as well as to reach out directly to coaches or directors to volunteer.

The Volunteer Coordinator is Sarah Morgan.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to her directly at the contact below.
