This handbook is a reference for our core policies across programs.  Please see each discipline handbook for specific details on your program.

Alpine Team post-race shenanigans

Welcome to the DWSC Alpine Team.  We are an organization that is committed to growing athletes into competitive ski racers.  Through the use of race course instruction, goal setting, conditioning and video analysis feedback we provide an atmosphere for personal growth while having fun. The DWSC Alpine Team has several programs and levels of commitment to choose from.  Travel and Racing commitments are optional and flexible based upon the athlete’s schedule.  We meet at the Purgatory Resort on most weekends and Chapman Hill during the week.  Our training methodology combines drills, gate training with supervised free skiing.

Ages 6+, age 5 welcome with parent discretion, must be able to ski blue runs and ride a chair lift and be on the hill for 6 hours

Freeride Team at Silverton Mountain

Welcome to the DWSC Freeride Ski Team! We are excited to have you! Freeride is the newest and fastest growing discipline in the skiing universe. Being that it’s so new you may not know all the ins and outs of the sport, so let this document be your guide and reference. Enclosed is all the information about the team, guiding principles, training, coaches bios and expectations, guide to competitions, and almost anything else you might want to know about our program. This document should be reviewed by both athlete and parents. This handbook is only one resource and there are many others. And if you still can’t find the answer to your question, please feel free to contact any of the staff, we are happy to help.

Young Freestylers

The goal of the DWSC Freestyle Team is to develop recreational and competitive athletes for Southwest Freestyle Tour, USSA and USASA competition. The primary focus is to have fun and allow athletes to become a more accomplished all around skier. The programs are designed to teach basic and advanced mogul skiing techniques, aerial training, Terrain Park and overall free skiing skills.

The DWSC Freestyle Team offers children an introduction to all of the freestyle disciplines including moguls, dual moguls, aerials, slope style and half pipe. From Old School to New School the teams know all the tricks! From local competitions to regional and national USSA and USASA events the teams offer structural training in a fun environment.

New Gromlins Program

The Gromlins program is designed to expose your athlete to all of our competitive DWSC teams (Alpine, Freeride & Freestyle) in order to understand their true passions.  This is done while working on solid fundamental skiing skills that will translate to any skiing discipline they decide to pursue in the future.  Athletes will be given the chance to explore the entire mountain with varied terrain under the instruction of our certified coaches.  We will provide a supportive team structure to facilitate friendships while making practice fun!

Athletes are expected to be able to ski blue runs and ride a chair lift independently.  Purgatory Resort offers Snowburners programs for athletes that are not yet comfortable with these requirements.

We have the expertise and professional level coaching styles to teach your athlete how to ride the half pipe, shred the Giant Slalom, Boardercross, slopestyle and have heaps of fun while doing it. With over a decade worth of metal wearing, podium standing athletes from regional to national level competition, the snowboard program shines in accolades along with their attitude, dedication and a gnarly level of love towards the sport.

Athletes looking to join the program should be able to ride moderate blues to blacks and able to make proper edge changes.
